That was the message from the players and management after Rangers overcame a spirited Millbrook side with a hard fought 2-1 victory.
With the Club flag flying at half mast, the players wearing black arm bands and a minute’s silence held before the game we were ready to pay our tributes to Clack but I don’t think that anyone thought that the players reaction would be so swift. There was only 45 seconds on the clock when Joe Chamberlain broke down the left and unselfishly crossed for Jack Bryant to put Rangers ahead. Then with less than ten minutes gone Jack Bryant was on hand to head home Joe’s corner to give us a two lead. Rangers were threatening to run riot and squandered two more chances to extend their lead but this Millbrook side was not going to lie down and began to claw themselves back into the game and Rangers had to thank Adam in goal as they clung onto their 2 goal cushion at the break.
We knew Millbrook would come at us in the second half and we seemed intent on keeping the visitors at bay rather than showing much urgency in taking the game to them and it came as no surprise when the vistors grabbed a goal back following a set piece after 70 minutes. This seemed to galvanise Rangers as we managed the game much better and looked much more in control for the final 20 minutes, having said that I think we were all glad to hear the final whistle.
Liam was pleased with the 3 points which saw us leapfrog our opponents and move up to 6th in the league. “I thought they were a strong outfit and gave us plenty of problems and I was pleased that we got a couple of early goals. It was a very emotional day for all of us and I was just so delighted that we were able to get three points for Clack.”
