A second consecutive victory saw Rangers move up to 9th in the SWPL with 9 points after Saturday’s fixtures. Saturday’s opponents were Plymouth Marjon who were sitting in a healthy sixth spot before our encounter.
Rangers welcomed back Josh Baxter after injury and Mike Humphreys after suspension. Langers was also back but only on the bench as he nursed himself back to full fitness after his ankle injury.
We could not have wished for a better start as we were ahead before spectators had time to take their seats when Joe Chamberlain headed home from close range. The lead was doubled after 15 minutes when Sam Jones’s excellent cross was met by Joe Wilkinson who headed home from close range.Rangers continued to dominate with Rangers keeper Luke Vernon a virtual spectator as the new back four of Baxter, Hawkings, Humphreys and Lewis kept a tight rein on the Marjon front line.
Rangers kept the upper hand for the second half with no real frights defensively and a few near misses in attack. Langers joined the game for the second half and it was great to see him come through unscathed. We left it until five minutes from full time before we made it 3-0 when Mike Humphreys strode forward to notch his first of the season with a low drive from the edge of the penalty area.
Clive was naturally pleased with overall team performance but especially with his back four ” that is how I expect my back four to defend and it is what pleased me most about the game. Mind you it was nice to score three again.”
