Any hopes of Rangers leapfrogging Bovey Tracey to take over at the top of the table were were and truly dashed at Edenvale Park on Tuesday night. The visitors ran out comfortable winners after an inept performance by the home side who were second best in all departments.
Rangers started reasonably brightly but it was not long before Bovey took a hold on the game and after coming close with a shot that came back off the upright they took the lead when poor defending at a corner allowed a free header to sail in at the near post. Just when it looked as though we would go into the break with just a single goal deficit Shane Gill was allowed yards of space in the penalty area to hammer home a second.
Any thoughts of a comeback were swiftly dashed as Bovey got two quick goals after the restyart and it was game over. They added one more before Marcus Fanson came off the bench to get a consolation goal for Rangers.
Manager Liam was obviously very disappointed with the performance “That was totally unacceptable and I have left the players in no doubt that they all need to look at their performances and ask themselves if that was the best they could do because if it is then it is simply not good enough. I think some of the players were beginning to think that we would do really well in this League but hopefully this will be kick up the backside and they will realise that there are no easy games and unless they put the effort in there will be more defeats along the way.”
