Rangers ran out comfortable 3-0 winners in the end against Dartmouth although it was not all plain sailing as the vistors made life very difficult for us in the first half.
The home team welcomed back Conor Bryant and Scott Conroy into their line up and were immediately on the front foot having a goal disallowed in the first five minutes but then almost immediately we had Luke to thank for a really smart save before the game petered out into a battle for midfield superiority on a very haevy pitch. We could have gone ahead just before half time but Joe Wilkinson’s effort rebounded out off of the base of the upright, so it reamained goalless at the break.
The stalemate was soon broken though when Jack Bryant’s cross was met at the far post by Jack Lewis and his shot was destined for the bottom corner before a Dartmouth defender got the final touch but it was definitely Jack’s goal. Ten minutes later we doubled our lead when Joe Wilkinson picked the pocket of the opposition centre back and set off on a race from the half way line which he won comfortably and finished with a clinical finish. Aiden Horne now replaced Langers who was struggling with a stiff neck and he was soon in the action providing a superb cross for Sam Bryant to stoop and head home and put the game to bed. Aiden Horne almost added a fourth but his close range effort from a Jack Bryant came back off of the underside of the crossbar.
Clive was pleased with the outcome “Firstly a big thank you to the ground staff for getting the game on in what proved to be very difficult conditions. I don’t think we ever looked like losing the game but once again Lady Luck was not on our side in the first half but once we got the opening goal I was confident that we would go on to win the game.”
