Rangers reached the dizzy heights of 7th spot after a workmanlike win at basement club Sticker. The conditions were terrible with a gale force wind and driving rain battering the excellent Burgullow Park pitch. Unfortunately prior family commitments meant that we could not include new signing Jorda Charran but we still had a formidable strike force with the Parsons brothers and Bailo.
We could have taken the lead in the first minute but the excellent Ethan Ewell in the Sticker blocked Brandon’s effort. To be honest the conditions were the winner in the first half with it almost impossible to pass the ball around. Isaac Reed just failed with a close range effort just on half time and just when we thought it would be stalemate at going into the break up popped Rhys Parsons with a superb curling effort from the edge of the box to give us athe lead.
We controlled the second half with Adam in our goal a virtual spectator for long periods and but for the heroics of Ewell the scoreline would have been far greater in our favour. Twice he somehow blocked efforts from Langers and Beechy but he was powerless to stop Bailo latching on to a loose ball on the edge of the box and lobbing the ball over his head on the hour.
Liam was naturally delighted with another three points “When we arrived and got out of the bus I could not believe how windy it was, I told the lads that we needed to keep the ball on the ground and forget that the opposition were still looking for their first win of the season because the conditions would be great leveller and that our attitude had to be spot on. I am pleased to say that the lads took that on board and I thought that once we scored the result was never in doubt. It’s great to have another clean sheet which is our 7th of the season.”
