That’s five away games and five defeats after we went down 6-1 at Torpoint on Tuesday nighht, the only positive thing to come out of the game was that we have at least now scored an away goal thanks to Isaac Reeds late strike.
We got off to the worst possible start when after only 30 seconds the referee put the whistle to his mouth to blow for a foul on Marcus Fanson but then decided not to blow it , the following pass inside Harvey Newman saw the winger cut in and take a tumble which the referee deemed to be a penalty and we are 1-0 down. Poor defending allowed their impressive striker to head home a second after only 5 minutes. Greeno and Marcus then both missed guilt edged chances for us as we strived to get back into the game but then the decisive moment of the game came on the half hour when the home team scored a third from what appeared to be an offside position but after a lengthy discussion with his assistant the referee decided to award the goal. Harvey obviously did not agree with the decision and the comment he made to the officials resulted in a straight red card. Torpoint added a fourth before the break when our defence was caught by a long through ball.
So not for the first time this season a long forty five minutes lay ahead but once again we were guilty of sqauandering two really good chances which may have given us a lifeline but it was Torpoint who snapped up the first two chances they created. There was some consolation though late in the game when Isaac played a neat one two with Brad and went on to score.
I could rant and rave about the officials but that serves no useful purpose even though we certainly did not have “the rub of the green” last night, what we need to do, and quickly, is address the fact that on our travels we have conceded 19 goals and only scored 1 in our five games.
