Rangers came back empty handed from the long trip to Falmouth having suffered a 3-1 defeat. Team selection was not a problem for Liam as he was without 6 of his first team squad with two late withdrawls adding to the 4 who were already unavailble so he was left with just the bare 11 players in a game which was already going to be a stern test for us. Players missing were Jordan Channer, Brandon Parsons, Isaac Reed, Ash Donohue, Tom Beddow and skipper Lloyd Beech. Our cause was not helped when we saw that the Falmouth squad included the prolific Jordan Annear who was last seasons’ s Golden Boot Award Winnner. Although he is now a Plymouth Parkway player as they were without a game he was selected to face us and with one assist and two goals he was truly instrumental in our defeat.
Liam included two youngsters who were making their first starts for the Club, Jack Rainey and Connor Stone and they certainly did not let the side down, in fact all 11 players were a credit to the Club with the effort they put in.
Falmouth went ahead after 15 minutes when a cute flick by Annear left Tim Nixon in the clear and although Adam got a finger tip to the ball it still found the bottom corner. We were by no means outplayed in the first period and we probably enjoyed more of the ball than our hosts but we seldom troubled the Falmouth keeper. The second half was much the same as the first but when a sqaure pass was intercepted by Annear there was only going to be one outcome as he raced clear to score. Then with ten minutes left Annear put the game to bed as he rose at the back post for a corner and planted a header into the bottom corner.
Rangers were rewarded for their efforts when in the dying stages of the game Bailo was upended in the box. He got up and dusted himself down and drove home the resultant spot kick. We almost got a second when Rhys Parsons was only inches away from getting on the end of a Greeno cross.
So Rangers could hold their heads up high after a battling performance. Hopefully next week we will have a full squad available for the visit of Helston.
Team: Seedhouse-Evans, Stone, Hill, Ansell, Mitchell, Langabeer, Greening, White, R. Parsons, Baily, Rainey.
