Rangers introduced midfielder Aaron Hawkings into the side in place of the unavailable Sam Jones. We were still missing Josh Baxter and George Painter with long term injuries.
The pitch was in good nick which was more than can be said for Rangers at the start. We were terribly slow out of the blocks and soon found ourselves on the back foot against a very good Okehampton front line which we were finding it difficult to contain but having said that we had the best chance early on but Jack Bryant’s effort went just wide. But on 10 minutes we went behind when Luke will be disappointed in the Rangers goal to let a free kick slip from his grasp and Mortimore gave the home side the lead. The lead did not last long when Adam Langabeer’s shot was blocked on the line a few minutes later and Joe Wilkinson was first to react and grabbed the equaliser. Within ten minutes though Okey regained the lead when the home team striker beat Luke to a free kick and walked the ball into the net. Mortimore then grabbed a third just before half time with a fine header.
For the first hal hour of the second half the game was battled out in midfield with neither team creating any clear cut chances although Jack went close with a close range effort but just could not get the ball on target. The game then sprang into life after a nasty challenge from an Okehampton player, players squared up to one another and a home player fell to the ground. The referee deemed that Mike Humphreys was the culprit leaving Rangers to play the last ten minutes with ten men.
With the game entering injury time Okehampton got a fourth goal following a well worked move to seal the result which they deserved.
Clive said after the game “I was done to the bare bones with my squad with only one substitute available and I am deperately trying to get some new faces on baord but it is difficult. My job is not made any easier when our lack of discipline now means I will probably lose one of my best defenders for three games.”
