A huge sigh of relief descended on Edenvale Park last night as Rangers recorded their opening win of the season with a deserved 2-0 victory over Stoke Gabriel. We took the lead on ten minutes when Greeno’s ball inside the full back left Ash Donahue in the clear and he made no mistake. The remainder of the first half was a scrappy affair with chances few and far between.
It was on 60 minutes when Greeno was the provider again when his free kick was met at the far post by skipper Lloyd Beech and he made no mistake with a bullet header. Shortly after we were denied a stone wall penalty when Brad Kelly was bundled over in the box when about to shoot but to everyone’s amazement, including the Stoke defenders, neither of the two officials who were well positioned felt that a spot kick was justified.
We managed the rest of the game really well restricting the visitors to long range efforts and hopeful crosses into the box with Nathan in goal seldomed troubled.
We need to take this performance into the next game which is the FA Vase game at home to Torpoint on Saturday when £550 is up for grabs.
