Rangers certainly had their shooting boots on on Saturday as they put seven goals past a beleaguered Newquay defence. The game was played in torrential rain which meant that it was never going to be easy for defenders although Newquay did shoot themselves in the foot with some pretty poor defending at times which Rangers took full advantage of.
The avalanche of goals started on 9 minutes when a Brad Riggs free kick was expertly headed home by Ash Donahue. Ollie Aplin then took full advantage of a couple of Newquay errors and his two goals gave Rangers what appeared to be a comfortable cushion to take into half time but the visitors had different ideas and Jack Rapsey pulled a goal back on the stroke of half time courtesy of a huge deflection which wrongfooted Dom Aplin in the Rangers goal.
Things were fairly even then until on the hour a great through ball was finished off on the volley by Ash Donahue. Ash then turned provider as he crossed for Dan Baily who scored with his first touch after coming on as substitue. Isaac Reed then set up Ollie Aplin to complete his hat trick to make it 6-1. New signing Robbie Bowker was then introduced and it was not long before he was instrumnetal in setting up Alex Greening to give a final scoreline of 7-1.
This was a very clinical displayby Hedley’s lads and should give them great confidence as they prepare for the forthcoming FA Vase game against Wincanton next Saturday.
