Rangers hopes of a good start to the new campaign were dashed by a hard working Holsworthy side who thoroughly deserved the three points on Saturday. Things could well have been so diferent if Rangers had not squandered two glorious first half chances when only the goalkeeper stood between us an opening goal but I am afraid that has been the story of our pre season, our inability to score goals even though we are creating chances.
Holsworthy’s opener came on 38 minutes when their striker was given time and space to turn on the six yard box and beat Luke Vernon in goal. The second on the stroke of half time was a wonder strike from 40 yards which saw the ball rifled home through a host of players making their way out after a corner, giving Luke absolutely no chance. 2-0 at half time.
The second half was a very scrappy affair with chances very few and far between, the only memorable event was the sending off of Tom Hawkins for a second caution leaving us to play the last 25 minutes with ten men.
So on Wednesday we are on the road to Axminster who kicked off their season with a 5-0 win, hopefully we can find our shooting boots before then.
