Rangers carried on their impressive string of results with a deserved 3-1 win over Newquayto consolidate their 7th spot in the table.
To be honest we made slightly hard work of grinding out the 3 points after dominating the vast majority of the game but two high quality goals late on sealed it for us.
The first half was mainly one way traffic with Adam in goal a virtual spectator but try as we may we just could not break down a very resolute “Peppermints” back line. Rhys lifted a close range effort just over the bar and Beechy was only inches away from getting his head on a Greeno free kick but the scoresheet remained blank at the interval.
It was more of the same in the second period with the visitors continuing to frustrate us but on 70 minutes we got the breakthrough. Bailo managed to keep a ball in play on the byline and his deep cross found Beechy at the back post who headed back across goal where Ash Donohue was waiting to pounce and slot the ball home from 8 yards. For some reason this seemed to change our mentality and we decided to sit back and defend our lead but that was to prove a disaster as Glen Squires volleyed home from 12 yards giving Adam absolutely no chance. This was to prove to be Newquays only shot on target in the 90 minutes such had been Ranger’s dominance but we were now on the back foot and the visitors looked more likely to go on and clinch the points but then on 80 minutes Isaac Reed released Ash Donohue down the left wing and he cut inside before unleashing one of his left foot specials which whistled past the visiting keeper for Rangers to regain the lead. Shortly after Isaac was again the provider but this time it was Brandon Parsons who collected his pass and his pace took him clear before he showed real class in dinking the ball over the advancing keeper. So another three points in the bag.
Rangers now face two tough trips staring with Exmouth on Boxing Day followed by Tavistock next Saturday. Both teams currently in the top three.
