Last season it took us seven games to get our first vistory so it was great to get off the mark with three points from our first game of the new campaign. Rangers new look side looked really impressive for the first 45 minutes and should have a more comfortable lead than the 2-0 they enjoyed going into the break.
We took the lead on 15 minutes when a superb period of build up play resulted in Danny Baily playing in Brandon Parsons who finished from close range. Bailo might have increased our lead shortly after when Beechy headed a Brad Riggs free kick back across the face of the goal but Dan’s close range header went just the wrong side of the post. Alex Berry was then called upon to make a fine finger tip save from a dan Hart long range effort before we doubled our lead. Isaac Reed drove down the left wing and delivered the perfect far post cross for Beechy to power a header home at the back post right on the stroke of half time.
Ivybridge were a different side after the break and we were on the back foot for long periods but we looked solid in defence and it was uncharacteristic of our back line to allow the dangerous Kelvin Fyneboy time to turn in the box before hitting an unstoppable drive past Alex with still 25 minutes left on the clock. There were a few minor scares incuding a thunderbolt from Hart which clipped the top of the Rangers bar before Alex Greening felt he should have had a penalty when he was upended in the box in the dying stages. Rangers fans heaved a sigh of relief when the final whistle blew and the three points were in the bag.
Liam was pleased with the result “I thought the first half we were excellent and could have put the game to bed but fair play to Ivybridge they upped thgeir game in the second half and we really had to work hard to get the three points.”
