Rangers entertained Okehampton Argyle at Edenvale Park on Wednesday night and were beaten 2-0 despite the visitors playing for an hour with only ten men.
The early exchanges were even with neither side carving out any clear cut chances but then on 30 minutes defender Harvey Newman was sent off for a reckless tackle. This seemed to galvanise Okehampton as they set out their stall to prevent Rangers from scoring but out of the blue they took the lead with another of our defensive mix ups ending with the ball somehow trickling over the line. It was to be mainly attacking mode for the home side from here on in but failure to exploit the extra man would prove to be their downfall as they continued to play into the hands of the vistors defence by attacking the central areas of their defence. Keeper Aaron Deering brought a couple of smart saves and there were a couple of golamouth scrambles but it was Okey who got the second and decisive goal when George Painter was robbed in his own box leaving their striker with a clear path to goal.
Clive was naturally disappointed after the game “we failed to take advantage of the extra man but all credit to Okehampton they defended as if their lives depended on it and I am afraid that we did not have the ability to break them down in wide areas where we should have made use of our man advantage. But we must cut out these silly mistakes which are costing us dearly at this level.”
