Rangers made into the Third Round of the Walter Parsons League Cup after a penalty shoot out with St Martins.
As expected this was a heated affair with yellow cards in abundance in the first half but little goalmouth action to speak of. The game really came to life early in the second half when Simon Hill received a second yellow card, and not for the first time this season, Rangers were playing with ten men. But this seemed to spur us into action and we took the lead on the hour when Adam Langabeer was on hand at the far post to slide home Bailo’s cross. Ten minutes later it was two when Jordan took Greeno’s pass with his back to goal and swivelled to drill a left foot shot into the bottom corner. With only five minutes left it seemed to be plain sailing but then the impressive Chris McPhee took advantage of a defensive slip and scored from close range to give the visitors a lifeline. Then with the last kick of the ninety odd minutes Dan Western grabbed an equaliser with an overhead kick and so on to extra time.
Both side had great chances to clinch the game but the illusive winner was not to come for either side, so on to the dreaded penalties.
When Jordan had the first spot kick saved we feared the worse but Adam came up with three key saves to ensure that we finally crossed the finishing line 8-7. For the record our scorers were, Ansell, Greening, Donahue, Reed, Down, Beech, Baily and Langabeer. You can work out for yourself who unfortunately missed our other penalty!
The prize for victory is a home tie against Sidmouth Town which is scheduled to be played on 27th November.
