Rangers ontinued their recent improvement in form with a deserved 2-0 victory over Axminster at Edenvale Park.
We were unchanged from the team which saw off Torridgeside in our previous game except that Joe Wilkinson came in for the suspended Joe Chamberlain. Also encouraging signs were the return of Ollie Nott and George Painter on the substitutes bench.
The first half was a game of few chances with neither side creating any real clear cut openings and the game was goalless at the break. Unfortunately Langers took a nasty blow to the head ten minutes before half time and was unable to continue for the second half and needed treatment from paramedics. They cleared him to travel home and rest. I have spoken him today and he is feeling much better and expects to get back to work tomorrow.
Rangers began to dominate the second period and began to create opportunities. The deadlock was broken after 70 minutes when substitute Aiden Horne was left with a sight of goal ten yards out and his finish to the bottom corner left Hutchings in the Tigers goal no chance. A superb finish from the young man and his third goal of the season. Then with just five minutes remaining Sam Jones pounced on a ball on the edge of the box and drilled it into the bottom corner to make the game safe and put the icing on the cake of a thoroughly professional performance.
Clive was delighted “Another clean sheet! I thought defensively we were excellent and we coped well when we lost Langers and Sam Bryant with the substitutes, George Painter and Aiden Horne coming on and getting valuable time on the pitch as they start on the road back to full fitness.”
Team: Vernon, Baxter, Hutchings, Humphreys, Lewis, Jack Bryant, Sam Bryant(Horne 70 mins), Langabeer(Painter 45mins), Conor Bryant, Wilkinson, Jones.
