Rangers pulled off a shock result at Edenvale Park on Tuesday night when they came from 3-1 down against Southern League opponents Barnstaple Town to force the game into a penalty shoot out where Rangers came out 4-3 winners.
The visitors showed their quality early in the game and it was slightly against the run of play when Bailo threaded a pass through to Brandon Parsons who raced clear to score. WE began to get a grip on the game but ironically it was the visitors who went in at half time with a lead courtesy of a close range header and a disputed penalty. But after the break Cully took control of the game but against the run of play they found themselve two goals in arrears with a mountain to climb, but this team does not fold easily. Liam switched Beechy up front and he caused the Barum defence all sorts of problems. Then with fifteen nminutes to go Brandon was upended on the edge of the penalty area. Greeno took the free kick which the keeper spilled straight into the path of Ash Donahue who made no mistake from 6 yards. It looked as if it was not going to be our day when a Beechy header came back off the post but he was not to be denied and with virtually the last kick of the 90 minutes Brandon put him clear and he made no mistake with his lethal left foot. So on to penalties.
So no for the first time this season we were in a penalty shoot out which we came out on top 4-3 after two Barnstaple players balooned their efforts over the bar. Succesful takers were, Reed, Ansell, Donahue and Baily.
We now look forward to a repeat of last season’s semi final when we entertain Plymouth Parkway in the new year.
Team: Seedhouse-Evans, Mitchell, Ansell, Beech, Reed, Greening, White, B. Parsons, Baily, Beddow, Donahue.
