Rangers started brightly in this local derby but after Ethan Phillips hit the post and Dan Cullen had a close range header somehow blocked by Mike Searle in the Crediton goal you had the feeling that this was not going to be our night. Worse was to follow on 20 minutes when a long range effort from Kenny Ord swerved and the last moment and slipped through the outstretched hands of Rob Holmes to give the home side the lead much against the run of play.
The second half was only just under way when Ethan had a guilt edged chance to equalise but he slipped in the sodden goalmouth as he was about to shoot and the ball ran agonisingly wide. The game then descended into a drab affair with neither side creating any clear cut chances but on the hour Ord was on hand to tap in a knock down from close range to double the lead. Despite a lot of huffing and puffing from our lads we were unable to break down a resolute Crediton defence who held on to their lead without any further alarms.
Liam was down after the game “That was simply not good enough from us and it is difficult for me to take any positives out of that performance.”
