Rangers came very close to robbing Ilfracombe of their unbeaten record on Tuesday night. Two late efforts from Ethan Phillips were thwarted by the excellent Jamie Matthews in the visitor’s goal to ensure that the game ended 1-1 with honours shared which was probaly a fair result.
We welcomed back Ethan and Langers to the team after their suspensions with Marcus Fanson also available again on the bench. Ilfracombe started the better of the two teams and deservedly took the lead on 15 mins with a free header from a corner, we obviously had not learnt any lessons from Saturday! The rest of the half was even with neither keeper really troubled.
Rangers definitely upped the pace in the second half with Brandon Parsons posing a real threat. On the hour he was brought down for the umpteenth time on the edge of the box. Ethan stepped up to take the free kick but with the visitors expecting a shot he slid the ball to Brandon who crossed for Ollie Aplin to poke in the equaliser.
Liam was happy with the point in the end “Obviously I am disappopinted to concede again from a corner which is something we must put right but I thought that, especially in the second half, we took the game to them and our defence looked much more secure with James Ansell moving into the back four. To be fair I thought Ilfracombe were a good side and I can see why they were unbeaten but it is good to know that at the end of the game they were delighted to take a point from the game.”
