The Reserve team followed up Tuesday’s great win against University with another 3 points against Woodbury. A result that keeps them at the top of the table.
The first half was played in very difficult conditions with the torrential rain causing a lot of surface water. This made for a scrappy start to the game. Cullompton gradually started to take control of the match and their possession was rewarded with a great goal from Mark Webber, who thundered the ball into the bottom corner of the Woodbury net from 25 yards.
The rain continued to fall and as half time arrived the referee made it clear that the game was in danger of being abandoned if things didn’t improve. Luckily, as the second half arrived, the heavy rain disappeared and it wasn’t long before Cullompton were back in their stride. A few good Cullompton chances went begging, but the back 4 were looking very solid at the other end.
Cullompton continued to push and introduced Dan Horler into the action. Dan promptly set about extending the lead with a good finish from the edge of the box to make it 2-0. Almost as soon as celebrations had finished it was 3-0, with veteran James Bedford sending his watching girlfriend and last seasons vice-vice skipper Paul Dugard into raptures by slotting home from a great Billy Greene cross.
The game was nicely wrapped up when Billy got the goal his performance deserved with a well taken finish to make it 4-0.
Overall this was another very good team performance in tricky conditions. Next up is a trip to Axmouth on Saturday.
FINAL SCORE: Cullompton Rangers 4 – 0 Woodbury
