Rangers are safely through to the next round of the FA Vase after overcoming Toolstation side Wincanton Town 3-2 on Saturday. They will now face East Division side Budleigh Salterton at home in the next round.
A bumper crowd was inattendance at Edenvale Park for a game which was worth £600 to the winners and it was the visitors who started the brighter of the two teams and Rangers were indebted to Dom Aplin when he blocked an effort from the impressive Matt Morley but it was not long after that the same player took advantage of a mix up between Dom and Isaac which left him with the simple task of walking the ball into an empty net. This triggered a response from Rangers and within ten minutes they were level, a poor clearance from the visiting keeper was superbly controlled by Tom Beddow and his perfectly weighted pass was slotted home by Ollie Aplin to bring the scores level. Five minute later and Rangers were in front, Ash Donahue was given space to run into as he cut in from the left and his piledriver was too hot to handle for the Wincanton glovesman and Rangers found themselves in fron at the break.
The second half was mainly contested in the middle of the Park and Rangers looked in control with Dom seldomed being troubled. On the hour Robbie Bowker replaced Ashley who had picked up a knock and it was not long before he stamped his influence on the game. His first pinpoint corner was narrowly headed over the bar but only minutes later Frazer Clark was given a similar chance and he made no mistake as he headed home from six yards to give Rangers a two goal cushion. The game looked safe with just a few minutes remaining but the another defensive mistake gave Connor Williams the simplest of chances to pull a goal back. There a few anxious momemts to see out which Rangers did to secure a deser5ved victory.
Hedley was delighted with the result and was pleased with the overall performance but quite rightly pointed out “we need to cut out those types of silly defensive errors if we are going to progress in the competition. We have another home draw in the next round which gives a great chance of making further progress.”
