With Mike Humphreys, Jack Mills and Sam Towler missing Clive called up the services of Josh Pearson, Joe Wylie and Tom Hawkings to start against a Torpoint side with a 100% record so far this season.
The void between the two sides was not apparent as the honours were even for the first half with the dangerous Ryan Richards a real threat for the visitors but it was the home side who took the lead when Jack Bryant set up Jack Lewis to score from close range.
The second half started with Torpoint on the front foot but keeper Luke Vernong remained untroubled until Paul Heveran volleyed home spectacularly from 12 yards as we failed to get to the second ball quickly enough and cut out the danger. Torpoint now had the upper hand and just when we felt that we had done enough to earn a point we conceded a needless free kick just outside the box. This wasa expertly delivered to the back post where Darren Hicks was left unmarked and he headed home to seal three points for the visitors.
Clive was naturally disappointed with the winning goal “Firstly we give away an unnecessary free kick when we make a rash challenge and then we fail to do basic marking duties and allow a free header. This was a much better performance but we must keep improving in order to get to the standards I have set us.”
