Rangers grabbed all three points with a late header from Tom Hawkings which was no more than we deserved after having created countless chances which we failed to convert.
We had the best possible start when Joe Wilkinson opened the scoring after only 7 minutes when he hit a looping volley from the corner of the penalty area over the home keeper. We went on to create several more guilt edged chances but a mixture of poor finishing, good goalkeeping and Lady Luck meant that our lead remained at a slender single goal. Then on the half hour the home team were awarded a penalty after a clumsy challenge in the box, there were no complaints from our lads and the penalty was confidently despatched to draw the teams level.
Rangers continued to create chances in the second half, including two one on ones but it was not until ten minutes from the end after the home team had been reduced to ten men that Tom Hawkings climbed above everyone to meet a Jack Lewis corner and make it 2-1. There was ttill time for the home team to hit the bar as they threw everyone forward in sdearch of an equaliser but Rangers held firm to take home a valuable three points.
Clive was pleased with the result but disappointed that it was not a much more comfortable victory. “I lost count of the number of chances we created but fair play to Holsworthy they defended as if their lives depended on it but we must learn to kill teams off when we are in so much control of games.”
