Lloyd Beech came up with his second goal in consecutive matches to ensure that Rangers progressed into the next round of the FA Vase where we will face Bristol side Cribbs who demolished Witheridge 9-1.
The Torpoint game was a tough encounter with very little to choose between the two sides. Rangers took the lead on the half hour when Beechy met a Greeno corner at the back post and powered his header into the bottom corner of the net. Nathan then did well to make a point blank save to keep out a header from a Torpoint corner. Then right on half time Kirk Smith of Torpoint was shown a straight red card for a reckless challenge on Brad Riggs.
Torpoint showed great character in the second half as they pushed forward with their ten men but Rangers held firm and should really have sealed the game as the visitors left gaps which we really should have exploited.
Afterwards manager Liam Raybould was pleased with the result “Naturally we are delighted to have won the game but I thought we could have managed the game better in the second half but it is always difficult when the opposition lose a player because the other players seem to dig deeper. Also the players have a one goal lead and they want to protect that and tend to sit deeper which we were guilty of but we will learn from that. At the end of the day the players are delighted that we are through to the next round and we can look forward to testing ourselves against Cribbs from the Western League.”
