It was a wet and windy Edenvale Park on Saturday when Holsworthy were the visitors. With games around us being postponed it was clear that the major investment that the club had made on new drainage had reaped its reward with the pitch being in tip top condition.
The Rangers squad was unchanged from the mid week victory over Crediton. Clive was back to take charge of the team after his short break.
The first half was mainly one way traffic as Rangers laid siege on the visitor’s goal but chance after chance went begging before on 30 minutes Jordan Lovibond made one of his darting runs down the right before crossing to Beechy who volleyed home at the far post for his fifth goal of the season.
The second half was a repeat of the first, the only difference being that the chances were even more guilt edged. Jack Bryant had efforts saved by the inspired Ryan Chadwick in goal as well as being denied by the upright, there were numerous goalmouth scrambles but the second goal just would not come. There was little threat from the Holsworthy front line with Mitch in goal being a virtual spectator.
So it was another clean sheet and three points to lift us up the table to the dizzy heights of third place.
Clive was happy with the result “On another day we could have had five or six goals but the second goal just would not come so we could not take too many risks. I was happy with our back line again today as we restricted the opposition to long range efforts which Mitch was able to deal with comfortably. Credit to the pitch which stood up remarkably well to the deluge of rain which poured down throughout. Now it is on to Ilfracombe on Tuesday night which will be a tough proposition but the lads should be full of confidence after four wins on the bounce.”
