Torpoint proved too strong for a depleted Rangers team on Saturday but things might have been different if a few decisions had gone our way. As early as the fifth minute we thought we had taken the lead when Joe Wilkinson beat the keeper to the near post to score but after appearing to signal the goal the referee disallowed the goal claiming that Joe had kicked the ball out of the keeper’s hands. Then after going three down at half time with Rangers having a gale force wind in our favour we grabbed a goal when Joe crossed for Aiden Horne to score to make it 3-1 and we felt that we might get something from the game but our hopes were shattered when following a melee involving Jack Lewis and a Torpoint forward Jack received a red card wher as the opposition player received yellow. The home team went on to scramble a fourth goal and put the game beyond doubt.
Clive was missing from the game due to Covid so Mathhew took charge “I thought we were in the a good shout of getting back into the game at 3-1 but the referee, assisted by one of his assistants put paid to that. I thought Aaron Marks did well on his debut in goal but we were made to pay for some pretty poor defending in the first half when we failed to cope very well with the conditions.”
