Axminster were the visitors to Adopstar Park on Saturday. After a shaky start to the season, including a heavy home defeat to Cullompton, their new management team have begun building a new team.
From the kick off, Cullompton were on the attack forcing Axminster to defend deep in their own half.
As the game wore on, Cullompton were in complete control, but became wasteful with their final passes.
It wasn’t until the 30th minute that Cullompton had a shot on target, when Lewis Hill rattled the cross bar. Minutes later a thirty yard free kick from Lucas Coveny, crashed against the upright and went out of play.
Cullompton continued to attack looking for the opening goal, as the referee brought the half to an end.
The second half began as the first ended, with Cullompton on the attack. Whatever the manager had to say during the break, it worked almost immediately, when after eight minutes of the restart, Lewis Hill turned in a cross from the right, to open the scoring.
It would seem patience was key now. With Cullompton passing the ball better in midfield, and keeping possession, which eventually led to releasing Lucas Coveny down the left side and crossing for Lloyd White to score.
To their credit the visitors did not drop their heads, and even created a few chances of their own, all be it from corner kicks.
However Cullompton were soon back in control, and as the full time whistle approached, one more attack down the left saw a Lucas Coveny cross turned in by substitute, Cameron Webb.
Soon after the restart, the referee blew for full time.
Final score: Cullompton 3 Axminster 0.
