Saturday saw Cullompton on their travels again with a trip to league newcomers, Middlezoy Rovers.
Cullompton had to get over the disappointment of Tuesday evening’s result, but right from the the kick off Cullompton were up for it.
Middlezoy however had other ideas, playing 5 across the back, to block out the Cullompton forwards: a tactic that worked well for them.
As the half went on, the game became less entertaining. It was not until the final five minutes of the first half, that Cullompton had a shot on target, with Aiden shooting straight at the keeper. Minutes later he had another chance bringing out a very good save from the home keeper.
The second half began with Cullompton having made two changes, and almost immediately you saw that Cullompton meant business. They were back to using their great pace on both wings, creating uncertainty amongst the home defence. It was from one of these moves they forced a corner, from which Leo Baraball bundled the ball over the line.
Cullompton were in complete control of the game now, and it was no surprise when, from a superb through ball by Braden Morris, Aiden Horne turned in for the second goal.
As the game progressed, Cullompton created more unconverted chances, and were made to pay for doing so, when a rare breakaway wasn’t dealt with by their defence, enabling an home forward to score.
In the final few minutes Middlezoy threw everything forward looking for the equaliser, but it was not to be, as Cullompton held out to the final whistle.
Final score – Middlezoy 1 Cullompton 2
