Elburton were the visitors to Adopstar Park on Saturday. Elburton like Cullompton were founder members of the Devon League in 1992.
The game kicked off in bright sunshine with Cully pushing forward, creating the first of many opportunities which would turn out to be the story of the match – much of the play – but with nothing to show for their endeavour.
A recurrence of an ankle injury, meant Finn Crocker had to be replaced by Luke Broomfield playing his third defensive position in as many games. On 41 minutes a through ball into Cully’s penalty area fell kindly to an Elburton player who calmly slotted home.
Half time came with no further change to the score.
As you would hope, the second half began with Cully pushing forward looking for an equaliser, and this would be how the half would pan out. Apart for a few forays into the Cullompton half, the second period was taking place deep into the Elburton half.
It was not to be though. Elburton’s defence were well organised, and mixed with a little luck, they were able to withstand Cully’s constant attacks.
With the final whistle blown, the Cully players were obviously disappointed with the result, but I feel they put in a really good performance and it showed how far they have a come as a team this season.
The next game for Cullompton is away to near neighbours Honiton on Friday 20th October KO 7:30.
Look forward to your support.
