Cullompton Rangers 1 – 3 Crediton Town
Cullompton welcomed Crediton to Adopstar Park Wednesday night. Cully were looking to get their season going after missing a couple of weeks, due to other clubs commitments in cup competitions.
Crediton began the first half and immediately showed they were to be a tough side to beat.
However Cully began to grow into the game, especially down the right with Lloyd and Lucas causing problems with their pace and early crossing.
At the other end, Crediton nearly took the lead when an errant back pass forced the keeper to scramble the ball away for a corner. Crediton were back on top forcing several corners without creating a real chance.
Another break down Crediton’s right saw Lucas’ cross shot deflected for a corner. The corner was headed in by Sam Jones and although the defender did deliberately handle the ball, the referee allowed the goal and took no further action.
Cullompton were on top now and Aiden – on for the injured Jack Bryant – headed the ball against the post, and also created a number of other chances. As is the way in football, Cully were to pay for those misses, when from nowhere Crediton broke away, crossing into the box and scored. Crediton, buoyed by their equaliser, finished the half on top.
The second half began with Crediton dominating possession, but Cully defended well preventing Crediton from increasing their lead. Seventy minutes into the game saw injuries to several key Cully players, forcing the manager to make changes to both players and positions. Unfortunately this disruption played into Crediton’s hands, who were able to take advantage of a tiring Cully side, slotting in two late goals to run out deserved winners.
A disappointing result for this young Cully side, who now need to pick themselves up for another tough game away at Bovey Tracey this Saturday.
