New signing Douglas Camilo grabbed a hat trick when he led the line against Sidmouth Town on Tuesday, he was ably supported up front by Joe Wilkinson who was also having his first outing for the Club.
Rangers were quickly into their stride and were soon in the lead when after only 2 minutes Jack Bryant broke down the right and pulled the ball back for Douglas to ram the ball home from the edge of the box. After a period of sustained Rangers pressure it came as no surprise when they doubled their lead on the half hour when Douglas’s inswinging corner avoided everyone to find the back of the net. 2-0 to Rangers at half time.
The game was put to bed early in the second period when following a swift move down the right Joe Wilkinson set up Douglas for his third and he made no mistake from 10 yards. Sidmouth then resorted to long ball tactics which tested the Rangers defence but they stood firm under the excellent leadership of Lloyd Beech apart from conceding a sloppy goal afte 70 minutes.
Clive was delighted with the result “I have been working really hard to sign Douglas for a couple of weeks and after tonight’s performance I think you can see why. Beechy held the back line together and when you consider that we were missing four key defenders in Jack Lewis, Mike Humprheys, Tom Hawkings and George Painter I think that our defence can be proud of their performance. All four of the missing players should be available for Saturday so I may have a selection headache, but it’s a nice headache to have.”
