A superb finish by Ethan Phillips on the hour proved enough to secure victory for Rangers against a very determined Newton Abbot Spurs outfit.
It was easy to see why the visitors were sitting in fifth place in the table after their impressive start to the season as they passed the ball around with ease during the first half hour and their leading striker Adam Dyson was unlucky to see his long range effort clip the crossbar. The home side then got a foothold in the game as Spurs lost Dyson due to a muscle problem and they became less of a threat. Isaac Reed then saw his header drift just past the far post with Osborn well beaten.
The second half was much of the same and it was Rangers who made the decisive break through as Phillips got on the end of a Donohue cross at the near post to back heel the cross past the keeper for what was to prove to be the decisive goal. For the last ten mniutes Spurs through everything at us but the defence, superbly marshalled by Chris Todd, were able to hold out for the valuable three points which lifted us up to ninth place with games in hand on other teams around us.
Liam was happy with the three points “I would have liked us to have kept the ball more in the last ten minutes but fair play to Spurs they put us under real pressure and I was glad to hear that final whistle.”
It is now on to Sidmouth on Saturday in the FA Vase with the satisfacion of having won our last three games.
