The Reserve team returned to winning ways with a five nil home win over a struggling Budleigh Salterton team.
After a couple of weeks without a game, the match started with both sides looking rusty, but Cullompton gradually grew into the game and played some good football over the 90 minutes.
The opening goal after twenty minutes came from the most unlikely of sources, with Lewie Farrant getting into the box and onto the end of a cross with a strong header. Lewie vocally celebrated his moment of glory as the rest of the ground looked on in shocked silence.
The goal was a deserved reward for Cullompton committing players into the box and creating a number of chances.
Ten minutes later Luke Abrahams also forced his way into the box and another tidy finish made it two nil at the interval. Cullompton were starting to dominate with Audie Campbell and Tom Broom setting the pace from midfield, while Dan Horler was getting forward and linking up well.
In the second half the goals were scored by the very old and very left footed, with Jamie Cottrell finishing smartly twice while James Bedford sauntered through, deceiving the defenders with his (lack of) pace, before smashing home.
A lapse of concentration did let Budleigh in at the other end, and they were unfortunate not to score when striking the bar and then having the ball cleared off the line in the same move, but overall the clean sheet was deserved.
Horler’s reward for his increasing dominance of the game was to get substituted, as was free scoring full back Lewie (exiting to a standing ovation from the bench), as the players who came on also impressed.
It finished at five and the reserves now have another week break to prepare for the top of the table clash with Lapford, who also won five nil yesterday.
