The reserves came back reinvigorated by their one week break with a solid 10 nil win against Lympstone, preserving their 100% home record.
Cullompton started the game strongly and it was little surprise when Jamie Cottrell finished sharply to go one goal up inside the first ten minutes. This was to set the tone, with immaculate finishing in the first half establishing a 7 nil lead at half time. The second goal was the pick – Cullompton defending a corner with great discipline and surging forward as soon as the ball was won. Five players and five touches later the ball was in the back of the net, with Billy Greene applying the final touch.
The only time Tom Beddow gave the ball away was when he was dispatching it into the goal – his first goal was an immaculate piece of finishing after the Lympstone defence failed to close him down, while his penalty was ingeniously played onto a divot and bounced over the keeper for what would otherwise have been a backpass.
It wasn’t all one way traffic and Aaron Marks made a stunning save from a free kick in the first half. The Lympstone keeper also made some solid saves in the second half, and one great stop form a Dan Nation corner which was curling into the top corner.
Cotts also hit a second, and Dan Horler chipped in with two as well – Tom Broome struck another, and James Bedford also scored after leaving the defence to dead with his pace. Yes, you did read that correctly. While Ryan Clarke struck his weekly free kick into the bottom corner as requested.
All in all a good performance and there’s no reason why it can’t be repeated with a number of home games to come, although it won’t be 10 every week. Also good to see Tom Broome preserve enough energy for the dance floor later on Saturday, while Owen was busy pilfering leather jackets from innocent young ladies. All in all a good day. And night. And morning.
