North Devon side Torrington were the visitors on Saturday as Cullompton returned to league action.
Torrington kicked off in bright sunshine, on a pitch that would cut up as the game progressed.
The first 20 minutes were pretty uneventful, with neither side getting control of the game. It was not until the 30 minutes mark that it wasTorrington having the first attempt on goal, with shot well saved by the Cullompton keeper.
Torrington then had a further chance when they saw an effort cleared off the line. Moments later it was Cullompton who saw their goal bound effort also being cleared off the line.
This seemed to wake Cullompton up and they went into the lead when Aiden was brought down in the box. It was Aiden who took the penalty, sending the keeper the wrong way to score.
Soon after the restart, the referee blew for half time.
The second half was barely minutes old when Cullompton lost possession in midfield, and with players appealing for a foul, Torrington broke through to equalise.
From the restart, Cullompton were right on top, creating four or five chances, but with a combination of good goalkeeping and the hitting the post, they could not score.
As much as Cullompton were on top, Torrington did have a couple of chances themselves. The second of which they should have done better, when from six yards their effort was blazed over the bar.
Cullompton though continued to look for the winner, and although getting into good position, failed to deliver the final pass into the danger area.
To their credit, Torrington defended well, and were able to block out any further attacks from Cullompton. With the home team still searching for the winner, the referee’s whistle brought the game to an end.
Cullompton should be disappointed with this result, but will have to pick themselves up for what will be another tough game away at Bridport on Tuesday evening.
Final score.
