Cullompton welcomed Torrington to Adopstar Park, hoping to complete a league double, and get back to winning ways.
The match began in perfect condition with the ground looking superb, thanks to the Cullompton ground staff.
The first 30 minutes was really poor, with the feel of an end of season game. Cullompton though were the team looking most likely to break the deadlock, when following a goal mouth scramble and a poor clearance, Jack Bryant drilled in a superb opener.
As the game neared half time, Torrington had a glorious chance to equalise, when the winger rounded the Cullompton keeper, only to shoot over a completely unguarded goal.
That was all the action for the first half.
The second period saw Torrington much more purposeful, forcing 3 or 4 corners, but without troubling the Cullompton goal.
Both sides shared possession, without creating any chances.
With only minutes to go , chaos ensuded when Cullompton’s centre half was given a second yellow, leading to a red. He reacted badly to the goading he received from an unsporting Torrington side. Both side were then guilty of the mass altercation, which saw Cullompton’s goalie and the Torrington skipper being sent off.
I thought the referee dealt with the situation very well, and of course had to add 10 nervous minutes for Cullompton to hold on to their lead.
There were some relieved players when the final whistle came.
Final result Cullompton 1 Torrington 0
