Cullompton were on their travels again on Saturday, with a trip to south Devon to play Stoke Gabriel and Torbay Police. Cullompton were without Lucas and Lloyd White, both on holiday.
From the kick off, it was the home side who started the brighter, and nearly took an early lead when a snap shot was saved by Will. Cullompton, who had to make several positional changes, settled into the game, and Aiden had a chance, which was well saved by the home keeper.
The home side took the lead on 25 minutes, when a home forward latched onto a poor pass from Will Pinnick, to score.
Almost from the restart, Cullompton were level, when great work from Zac Williams, released Aiden in to the box to score. Cullompton were back in the game. However, a poor tackle on the edge of the box, allowed the home side to retake the lead, scoring direct from the free kick.
Things were only to get worse for Cullompton, when an innocuous tackle from George, saw him getting a second yellow card and his marching orders.
There was 10 minutes left of the half to hold out, before the referee blew for half time.
Straight after the restart Cullompton were awarded a free kick, deep into the home side’s half. Lucas Coveny stepped up to drive the ball deep into the penalty area, which was deflected into his own net by a home defender.
From that moment Cullompton were well on top, if it hadn’t been for the three or four top class saves by the home keeper, who kept his side in the game.
That was the pattern of the game: Cullompton spending the half on the attack looking for a winner, only to be undone deep into added time, when from a long ball into their half was turned in for the winning goal.
The home side scored a fourth with the last kick of the game.
A disappointing result for Cullompton, who for long periods of the game were the on top. A similar ending also happened in the home fixture against this side, when conceding two late goals.
Final score: Stoke Gabriel &Torbay Police 4 Cullompton 2
