A return to mid week action for Cullompton with a difficult game away to last year’s SWP Cup winners, Okehampton.
From the kick off the home side were on the attack, stretching the Cullompton defence. After a few minutes Okehampton took the lead, when from a corner, the tall centre half out jumped every one to score.
From the restart it was all out attack from Cullompton, searching for the equaliser. They came close on two or three occasions, but were then caught on the break by the home team. Cullompton failed to deal with a cross into their area, allowing Okehampton to score their second.
Cullompton were soon back on the attack and following a good move down the left, Aiden brought the ball under control, to score. Cullompton were dominating play now, looking to score again. However, a long ball clearance allowed Okehampton to add a third, after winning a corner, they scored with another header.
There was barely time for the restart as the referee blew for half time.
The second half began with Cullompton again on the attack, and this was the pattern of the second half. Cullompton would attack but the Okehampton defence blocked out any threats to their goal. Apart from some off target shots neither goal keeper was seriously troubled.
Cullompton would be very disappointed not to have earnt at least a point, but this Okehampton side were very experienced and probably had the edge in the art of winning these tough games.
Final score Okehampton 3 Cullompton 1.
