Another away fixture, this time at Newton Abbot Spurs. Cully Rangers have not played at home since early December. The team should have been on a high after a great result in their last game.
Unfortunately they got off to a poor start, conceding a goal from a corner after only 3 minutes. Things were only to get worse when after 10 minutes a headed back pass from Sam left Luke colliding with their centre forward, which resulted in him being sent off.
The team had to reorganise and with Connor Bryant taking over between the sticks and down to 10 men, Cully would always be up against it. It didn’t take long for Spurs to take advantage of their extra man and scored 2 more goals before the break.
There was more drama to come before halftime when an altercation mid way into Newton’s half, resulted in a player from each team being sent off. This was a strange decision, with the referee taking advice from a linesman who was standing a good 40 yards away. Certainly strange as the Newton player was nowhere near the incident.
The second half really petered out as a game. With Cully down to 9 players, Newton easily added a fourth goal. Aiden then scored a stunner from a free kick. As the game drifted to the final whistle, Newton scored twice more, making the score 6:1 at the end.
Cullompton have to be disappointed at this result.
