On a sunny Good Friday morning and with the pitch looking in superb condition we welcomed Elmore to Adopstar Park for the mid devon local derby.
Rangers got off to the worst possible start going 1-0 down after only 2 minutes . A long ball from the Elmore defence saw George Painter lose his footing leaving the Elmore striker through on goal to slot the ball past keeper Luke Vernon to make it 1-0 to the visitors .
Rangers were having the majority of possession and went close a couple of times , Sam Jones shot hitting the crossbar being the closest. After 10 minutes Rangers were extremely fortunate not to go 2 goals behind when another long ball put the Elmore striker through and after Luke saved his initial shot he somehow put the rebound wide.
Still Rangers were pushing forward creating further opportunities with Lloyd White, Dan Koita and Jack Bryant all going close however after 20 minutes it was Elmore who increased their lead. Again our defence was caught out by a long ball with good work from the Elmore forwards ending up with a cool finish to make it 2-0.
The game continued as before with Rangers dominating possession but Elmore still looking dangerous on the break. We finally pulled one back after 40 minutes when good work from Ben Scott released Lloyd White to slot the ball past the keeper to pull the score back to 2-1 at half time.
After a few words at half time Rangers came out on the front foot , camped in the Elmore half looking for the equaliser . This finally came after 75 minutes when a Danny Jee header bounced off an Elmore defender into the path of Dan Koita who made no mistake from 6 yards.
The game continued with Rangers desperately searching for the winner which eventually came with 5 minutes to go. Aiden Horne cutting in from the left hand side of the area to hit a great strike into the bottom corner to put us 3-2 ahead which was enough to seal the 3 points.
Well done to a young Elmore side who gave us a real scare on the day and good luck for the rest of the season.
Next up for Cully is a trip to Elburton on Monday with a 2pm kick off
