Rangers welcomed Elmore to Edenvale Park on Tuesday evening in a Mid Devon derby in which our visitors came out on top with a deserved 2-0 victory.
Elmore started the game the better side all over the park whilst Rangers struggled to get into the game. We were limited to a couple of half chances from crosses whilst our visitors went close on a few occasions before taking the lead after 25 mins when Harvey Dorothy found himself clear on goal and his cool finish put Elmore 1-0 up. During this period we also lost Sam and Jack Bryant to injury who were replaced with Ben Scott and Aiden Horne. After a few stern words at half time we showed some improvement in the second half but without really threatening the Elmore goal. To make matters worse after 65 mins we lost Ian Bellinger who was sent off for a dangerous tackle to leave us with 10 men for the remainder of the game. Elmore continued to create decent opportunities whilst we pushed more men forward searching for an equaliser. In injury time time Rangers were caught on the break with Lewis Hill finishing past Luke Vernon to give the visitors a thoroughly deserved 3 points.
Clive commented after the game “We were second best tonight to an impressive young Elmore side who were worthy winners. Too many of our lads just didn’t show up and we will have to show a massive improvement when we travel to Elmore on Friday”.
We travel to Elmore on Good Friday with a 11 am Kick Off. Also all at Cullompton Rangers were deeply saddened to hear the news today that Elmore club stalwart and groundsman Dave Stenner has passed away. Our thoughts are with all our friends at Elmore FC.
