Rangers made the short trip to Horsdon Park to meet local rivals Elmore in the Christmas local derby fixture .
Rangers went into the game with two changes from the previous weeks fixture with Harry Varnals and Jack Lewis both returning to the starting line up . There was also a place on the bench for Adam Langabeer after a month out with a back injury .
Elmore came closest to opening the scoring when a free kick to the far post was headed towards goal forcing keeper Luke Vernon to push the goalbound effort onto the post . Almost immediately Rangers opened the scoring at the other end with some fine work down the right hand side from Lloyd White resulted in Lloyd pulling the ball back for twin brother Lucas to fire home a fine left footed strike from 10 yards to give Cully the lead . Five minutes later it was 2-0 , this time Lloyd White firing home with his right foot from the edge of the area . Rangers continued to dominate the game and after half an hour Lloyd added his second when following a good passing move he ended up with the ball 25 yards out to beat 2 defenders and fire in an unstoppable left footed strike to make it 3-0 . There was still time for another before half time when again great work down the right hand side from the White twins resulted in Lucas adding to his tally to make it 4-0 at half time . The second half started with Joe Wilkinson hitting bar after rounding the keeper 2 minutes in with the game then becoming a bit quieter . Rangers were forced into a change on the hour mark with Ryan Perret replacing Ben Scott who suffered a knee injury when he fell awkwardly in a harmless looking challenge . Rangers still looked likely to add to the score line with Joe Wilkinson missing two great chances before Joe made it 5-0 following good work from Ryan Perret. There was still time for a final twist with Rangers being awarded a penalty in the last minute . Lucas White stepped up to attempt to complete his hat trick only to see his shot cannon of the crossbar .
Assistant manager Matt Scott said after the game “Really happy with the 3 points and especially the first half when we played some excellent football at times . It was great to see the White twins both get on the scoresheet and they have given the squad a real boost at this stage of the season . Another pleasing aspect was to see 6 players on the pitch at the end of the game all 21 and under .The only downside was a worrying looking injury to Ben but hopefully its not too serious. With Langers close to returning from injury things are looking good at the moment . We are also hoping to adding a familiar face to the squad with bags of quality and experience in time for Saturdays game at home to Crediton . Thanks to Elmore for their hospitality and we wish them well for the rest of the season . ”
Next up Crediton at home on New Years Eve with a 2pm kick off .
