Cullompton faced a midweek fixture with an away trip to Elburton.
Although with several senior players missing, Cullompton made an encouraging start to the game. Elburton were on the back foot for long periods of the first half. However, as become a regular feature of Cullompton’s game, a lack of concentration allowed Elburton to score, when a cross from the right was unfortunately deflected into his own net by Luke Horne. Minutes later, a poor clearance was latched on to by an Elburton player, who cleverly jinked into the penalty area, where he was brought down. The resulting penalty was converted, increasing the score line to 2 nil. A familiar pattern of late for Cullompton: playing really well only to let oppositions take the lead.
The second half became a carbon copy of the first with Cullompton controlling the game, without creating or threatening the Elburton goal.
Cullompton made a triple substitution looking to get back into the game, but it was Elburton who scored again. They took advantage of Cullompton pushing forward, breaking away to increase their lead.
At the final whistle, Cullompton who probably played better but counts for nothing if the opponents take all their own chances.
Final score. Elburton 3 Cullompton 0.
