After last week’s postponed game, due to the weather, Saturday saw Cullompton on their travels to play near neighbours Crediton.
Cullompton kicked off on a very heavy and bumpy pitch, which played its part in the outcome of the game.
For the first 10 minutes both sides were guilty of giving the ball away and it was Cullompton who capitalised on another mistake, when Zac Williams pounced onto a loose pass with his shot being diverted into his own net by a Crediton defender.
On twenty minutes, Cullompton were dealt a huge blow, when captain Lucas White hobbled off with a hamstring problem, to be replaced by Harry Varnalls.
Minutes later another mistake by a Crediton defender, leaving Lewis Hill the easy task of slotting home Cullompton’s second goal.
Cullompton were well on top now, looking likely to score with every attack, the only surprise was that it was not until the 40th minute, when following great hold up play from Lewis Hill, playing in Lloyd White to add a third.
On the stroke of half time a superb through ball from Drew Sloan found Lewis Hill inside the Crediton penalty area, who was able to control the ball before rounding the keeper for Cullompton’s fourth.
No time for the restart as the referee brought the half to an end.
The second half saw Crediton come out with renewed vigour, striving to get back into the game.
Cullompton though had different ideas when a Ben Scott effort rebounded of the upright, straight into the path of Lloyd White who scored.
This was to knock the stuffing out of Crediton, and on 65 minutes Lewis Hill broke down the right to cross for Cameron Webb to head home Cullompton’s sixth.
There was still time for Cullompton to add to their score, and minutes before the end of normal time, Lewis Hill raced onto a through ball from Harry Varnalls, to complete his hat trick and Cullompton’s seventh.
This should have been the end of the scoring, but deep into injury time, Crediton’s centre forward was allowed time to score a consolation goal from the edge of Cullompton’s penalty. Immediately the referee blew for full time.
A great result for Cullompton who completed the double over Crediton this season.
Final score Crediton 1 Cullompton 7.
