Another mid week fixture for Cullompton, with an away game at Bridport; their longest away fixture of the season.
The kick off saw Cullompton making an early chance, when Zac Williams broke into the home penalty area to see his effort slide past the post.
The game settled into a rhythm of both sides guilty of giving the ball away, neither side getting on top.
It was Cullompton however, who had the chances, with Lewis being well tackled when through on goal. Another chance went begging when the keeper brought out a good save from a Lewis attempt.
Lewis was to make amends just before half time when he got on the end of Aiden’s cross to score.
Bridport’s only attempt at Cullompton’s goal, was from their first corner of the night, right on half time.
As expected, the home side came out looking to equalise, creating some early chances. Cullompton’s defence however, were well disciplined, with keeper Will Howard alert to any situation.
Cullompton seemed to ride this early storm, and gradually grew back into the game, having chances of their own.
It was from a through ball from Aiden, releasing Lewis to round the keeper, and score Cullompton’s second.
It was not to be Lewis’s night however, when after a poor tackle from the Bridport captain, Lewis retaliated, giving the referee no choice in producing the yellow card: Lewis’s second, and he was sent off.
Cullompton were to face the final 15 minutes with 10 men, and during this period they lost Braden, Zac and Harry to injuries.
Bridport now attacked in numbers, but with the Cullompton defence holding firm and Will making important saves – none more than the double save at the feet of a Bridport forward – they held on for a deserved win.
Final score Bridport 0 Cullompton 2
